End of another year

Well finals are over, almost all of the phonebooks have been delivered and everyone is headed home for the holidays.  I want to send out a thank you to all the members who helped with the phonebook delivery.  We bet our all time record and finished the bulk of the deliveries in only 25 hours this year.  I still have some miscellaneous deliveries that need to be made and would appreciate anyone who can spare an hour or so to get those done.

Merry Christmas PBLers!

First Social Event – Laser Tag

The first social event for the year has been planned, and we are planning to go play Laser Tag in Marion at Pirate Pete’s.  We will be meeting at 5 PM in Rehn Hall 108 (the normal meeting location) on October 3, 2011 and carpooling to the Pirate Pete’s.  This will serve as our next meeting since the normal meeting time falls during Fall Break.   The chapter will be covering the expenses.

9/26 Meeting Synopsis

The meeting on September 26, 2011 was a very productive meeting and several important dates were discussed.   This is a short overview of what went on during the meeting.

  • Officer candidates gave brief speeches prior to the election to let people known more about them.
  • The election was held.   You can find the results of the election as well as other positions by clicking here.
  • The Little Caesar fundraiser was discussed and booklets were given out at the end of the meeting to sell.  Each booklet sells for $5 and provides all kinds of discounts and “buy one, get one free” offers for Little Caesar’s Pizza.
  • The new T-shirt design was discussed and it was agreed to have a shirt designed that has a Saluki on a trail leading to the “Gateway to Greatness.”  Our chapter name (Gamma Phi) is going to be on the back.
  • Our first social event was planned.  It is going to be Mini Golf.  We will all be meeting at the normal location (Rehn Hall – 108) at 5 PM next Monday (October 3, 2011) and carpooling.
  • Toys for Tots was discussed.   We are going to have boxes placed in the Student Center, and if anyone knows of any other locations we can place boxes, contact Tracy, Jill, or Ashley.   Keep in mind that the location needs to be accessible to the public so that the man who comes weekly to collect the toys can get to the boxes.
  • It was decided to not attend the Fall Seminar Series, but to go to the Winter Seminar Series instead due to the fact that the Fall Seminar Series is the same day as the Homecoming football game.
  • Our PBL chapter is a member of the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, so we can attend events they hold.  A representative was selected for the chapter.
  • The IL State Ambassador program was mentioned again, and members who are interested in running for a State Officer in the future or who simply want to become more involved in the organization are encouraged to apply.
  • A fundraising committee was formed to figure out the logistics of a fundraiser being held at a restaurant.   The fundraiser would involve members of the chapter possibly serving as waiters/waitresses for a few hours in exchange for a percent of the profit during that time period.
  • The National Fall Leadership Conference (NFLC) was discussed, and due to the large number of members participating the in the chapter this year, the chapter will be unable to pay for everything.   Currently, members who wish to attend have to pay for the cost of registration ($60) as well as any food/souvenirs on the trip.   The chapter will be attending the NFLC in Milwaukee, WI on November 11 – 12, 2011.   It is not required to attend the conference, but if you do wish to attend the conference, chapter dues ($30) must be paid on or prior to October 14, 2011 so that we can make the early bird registration deadline.
